iTunes Plus songs and the N95

A recent tip at MacOSXHints indicates that there is a workaround for getting iTunes Plus songs to play on the Nokia N95. The process involves using the "Convert to AAC" functionality in iTunes, essentially creating a standard AAC version of the song.

I tested this and the resulting file plays just fine on the N95. I set the AAC encoding bitrate to 256 (no VBR) in the iTunes preferences, but at the moment I am not sure if iTunes re-encodes the tracks or not. If there is no re-encoding and loss of quality, this may be a viable workaround.

Does anyone have any tips for comparing two audio tracks to determine if the data section is intact?
