It's been a good great while since Mac.sis saw any updates, and now might be as good a time as any to refresh things a bit.
First off all, apologies to all who happened to witness the massive amount of comment spam between June and now. This problem should be taken care of now, but just in case there were any real comments between June 24 and now, they are now lost. I had to resort to SQL to clean up approximately six thousand Viagra ads masqueraded as comments. Now the comments are moderated by Mollom, hopefully keeping the situation at bay.
Behind the scenes, June saw the Mac.sis backend updated to Drupal 6, which in the end was not as straightforward as I would have liked. But now all is up to date.
The RSS feed aggregation has been removed, as for most of people, it really served no practical purpose at all. I recommend Google Reader for getting your daily dose of gadget news. Hints for really good sites, however, are welcome in the comments.
As for the industry around us -- well, the changes have been massive. I suppose S60 as a moniker is a bit outdated, with the Symbian Foundation an all, so the site slogan needs to be reworked.
As for Macs and Symbian phones -- I have by no means abandoned neither. Part of the reason for my silence (apart from massive workload particularly around the house and "garden") is the fact that daily use of Macs and Symbian phones together has pretty much crossed the chasm, for me at least. There is very little that I feel I cannot properly achieve with these two technologies cooperating - things just tend to work. Gadget-wise, I am at least temporarily on a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic at the moment, my trusty old N82 having lost its Bluetooth chip when falling on concrete. With the 5800 XM, rIght from the unboxing, things just clicked. Network tethering, music & media transfer, Address Book sync, Maps download etc. worked without any hassles.
Some of the HOWTOs are no longer up-to-date, and particularly net tethering is much simpler with Leopard than before. Before tearing open that material, however, I intend to wait for Snow Leopard and do the updates in a one fell swoop.
Anyhow, if you're still around, thanks for bearing with me. I will do my best to turn the posting rate up a notch.
