After a rather long wait, Salling Clicker 3.5 is available for download & purchase. For those not familiar with the Clicker, it turns your smartphone into a universal remote that can be used for controlling Macs and for all sorts of household wizardry. I've been using Salling Clicker as a remote for my Mac mini media centre (old G4, no Apple Remote) and it has served me well.
Release 3.5 brings support e.g. for S60 3rd Edition phones, which were previously supported only through a stopgap Java client.
I will be taking the new Clicker for a spin right away, and will report back as soon as initial experience is available.
Update: Installation went without a hitch, and the client installed on the N95 without issues. A welcome addition for more long range remote geekery is the WLAN support:
I briefly tried my most common use cases, i.e. iTunes and VLC remote control, and found them working flawlessly:
Now the only thing between myself and a few moments of mouseless Galactica bliss is the visible video tearing exhibited by the latest version of VLC on my aging G4 mini. I've temporarily switched to NicePlayer, which does not have the same problem. Or alternatively, I need a NicePlayer script for Clicker.
