MacBook in for yearly check-up

Tomorrow my MacBook is going in for a yearly check-up. The machine is little under a year old, still under warranty and showing some of the symptoms common in this MacBook batch. The wrist rests look as if the machine has been used by a car mechanic as a workshop till for twelve years and the battery behaves erratically, sometimes providing a full 3 hours of good use and sometimes abruptly signing off after about 30 minutes.

The friendly folks at Varimport Tampere promised to hand back my baby on Friday, so I will have to resort to other household Macs for a few days. Or alternatively, go mobile-only.

The battery update and a new

The battery update and a new battery really helps with these problems, and I guarantee if you take it in, they'll help with all your problems you're having.

Battery firmware update

The battery firmware update helped a little, but I think the actual capacity of the poor battery is busted. Should not be problematic getting it exchanged though.

Battery exchange

Check the charge capacity numbers with System Profiler. If they are not in line with what Apple considers normal 80% of about 5200 until 300 cycles or something like that (See support pages), you can call Apple support and get a new battery.

My battery status

My battery has 4244 mAh (81% out of 5200) with only 81 load cycles. Might be a borderline case, but we'll see what the dealer tells me tomorrow.
