SyncTunes updated to 2.0

The featured application SyncTunes has been updated to version 2.0 (thanks to Dirk for the heads up). The new version advertises the following new features (directly from the SyncTunes website):

  • New: New look interface, replacing brushed metal style.
  • New: Syncing an iTunes folder playlist will create a PLS or M3U playlist file for each iTunes playlist contained within the folder.
  • New: [Excluding 'Simple Mode'] When the "Current PDA tracks will be..." sync settings are set to 'Replace' the current contents of the playlist subfolder/podcasts subfolder will be synchronised with the iTunes selection. This replaces the old method of just deleting all the contents of these subfolders and copying ever track again.
  • New: Now can create PLS playlist files: Selectable in Advanced:Volumes menu.
  • New: Added French localisation - thanks to Corentin Cras-Méneur
  • New: Track and pathnames with the ` and , characters are now replaced with a safe _
  • New: Now can add a prefix string to pathnames in playlist files: Selectable in Advanced:Volumes menu.
  • New: AAC format selection includes all 15 localisations of iTunes Plus AAC kind strings (tagged as 'Purchased AAC audio file') plus 'MPEG-4 audio file' and 'Purchased MPEG-4 audio file'.
  • Update: Destination volume support: UNIX mount point no longer need to be in /Volumes.
  • Update: Timeout when copying large files [specifically using USB 1]: now allows up to 5 minutes per track.
  • Update: The Library is not a true playlist, the list of iTunes playlists has always omitted the 'Library', now the list omitts localised Library names too (e.g. "Bibliothèque" in the French version of iTunes).
  • Fix: Playlist files now consistently list files in iTunes playlist order.
  • Fix: Podcasts were only updated in iTunes if the Advanced options are selected.
  • Fix: MPEG-4 files no longer included with MPEG audio files.
  • Fix: Re-encoding and re-copying of existing tracks was skipped for Merge sync when destination folder was 2 or more levels below the root folder.

I will be taking the new version for a test drive as soon as I can figure out why Fone Link will not detect any Bluetooth devices in my household and get that particular software tested.

And remember, SyncTunes is donationware (and for a good cause).
