Nokia releases Nokia Media Transfer for Mac (Beta)

I am at the moment depending on a slow cellular link and cannot try it out myself, but you may be interested in the fact that Nokia has released Nokia Media Transfer for Mac as an open beta version.

Download the app, take it for a spin and let me know how things go. Gotta find me a wifi AP quickly!

Nokia Media Transfer Now Supports Nokia E70

Yeah! being a die hard Eseries freak I am so glad that NMT now supports Nokia E70. Hopefully support for rest of the Eseries will appear shortly.

AAC files are converted to.... AAC files !!!

It seems the program is converting perfectly normal .m4a AAC files into the same format, but with .mp4 ending.

It is also storing the converted version in your home library/caches/com.nokia.NokiaMediaTransfer/

Filling up your system disk with copies of all the audiofiles transferred from your iTunes library, even though there is no need to convert them as they play fine on the phone.

Also it does not seems to sync (and convert) .m4b files (bookmarked AAC) from some of the podcasts i subscribe to, making it impossible to autosync these podcasts.

But the main problem is the unneccesary conversion of AAC files, since it takes both extra time and fills up your system drive.

I have reported this to NOKIA via the feedback option in the program, maybe others can do the same.

cheers
Peter

Works perfectly

Works perfectly and nicely integrated - must be used with N95 set to "PC Suite" rather than "Mass Storage". The Nokia Device Browser is an interesting alternative to other file browsers. No more reason to use a PC ...

A great tool, a very promising beta.
Now I think, phonelink and syncTunes and iTuneMyWalkam can be ommitted for Nokia-N-users.
In my view, the only advantage of phonelink is that files are automaticalle (re-)converted to suit the portable device: smaller audio-codec and smaller screen resolution of movies. I strongly hope that this will be implemented.

Yes, it works nicely - very elegant implementation. I haven;t been able to try out the iPhoto link up but the iTunes tie-in works nicely - the fact that it even creates the appropriate playlist on the phone is great.

It supported N series only

Since I'm using E70, it's not in the supporting list. But I gave it a shot anyway. And the application is true and hones, it found my E70 and tell me "not supported".

Doesn't work with E70! Why

Doesn't work with E70! Why always not for Eseries? Seems that Nokia thinks Nseries is for entertainment, while Eseries is for business, and people who do business do not use Mac. That's totally wrong. Should have a version for Eseries!!

This is crap! The Eseries

This is crap! The Eseries devices can do (almost) everything the Nseries can. I'm tired of Nokia pulling this "Nseries only" business when many of the same apps work perfect on Eseries.

In this case it can't be more than parsing an ID string from the device. Anyone know a hack?

IMO, this is Nokia's (weak) attempt at showing-up the iPhone. If there were no iPhone I doubt Nokia would have bothered with this software.

This is the kind of behavior that makes me want to ditch my otherwise lovely E61 and turn my back on Nokia.

That's competition for you

Well, even if it is because of the iPhone, It's great for us who have compatible phone (like my N95) and just shows that it's good NOKIA is finally getting some real competition.

Now, if they fix the problem with the app converting already compatible AAC files, add user preferences for the caching funtions and add bookmark support to the podcast player for the phone, I could even ditch my iPod (although I'm pretty sure bookmark support is far of, but everything else seems really cool).

Nokia Device Browser

Can't thank you enough for the heads up on this Sami!

So far it seems like a really solid App for only being Ver 1.0.

Let's hope this starts a trend where we see more support by Nokia's Mac software Development Team.

It seems even more advanced and polished than iTuneMyWalkman (which was already pretty great for what it was!)

Have a great day and I'm looking forward to hearing your review of the Nokia Device Browser soon.

Nokia Media Transfer

Hi, thanks for the heads up on this application. It's actually a great application, my first thought was that it was just going to be an attempt at making the pretty much horrid Nokia software for PC work on Mac. But pleasantly I was surprised that it is actually really good! I did a quick wee write up with screen shots on my blog:

Thanks!
