Mac.sis making macs and S60 handsets talk

Inspired by a beautiful autumn day last weekend, I took the entire family for a little walk in the nearby forest trails, with the intention of photographing autumn colors (and of course my pride and joy of a daughter) during the outing. I took my trusty old Canon EOS 400D with a 70-300mm Canon lense, and decided that it would be nice to geotag the photos I manage to take.

To my surprise, this worked beautifully, with the toolchain consisting solely of free utilities for S60 and my Mac. Here's what I did:

The FoneLink application for cell phone management for Macs has been updated to version 2.0, and the friendly folks at nova media are offering 5 licenses for Mac.sis readers – the only requirement is that once you try the software out, please provide feedback / review as a reply to this article.

Thanks to Eric for pointing this out – the mobile syncing hotness Nokia Multimedia Transfer has been updated to version 1.2.1. The upgrade can be carried out conveniently through the Check for updates now option in the NMT (have to love the acronym).

Alas! The NMT web page says nada about the contents of the upgrade, so I suppose time will tell. Any clever observations on new or improved functionality are greatly appreciated.

While not directly related to Macs, you may be interested in the new version of the Share Online client for the N-series handsets as described in S60 Multimedia Blog. Share Online 2.0 replaces the existing bridge between your S60 Gallery and different online services (Flickr, Vox or custom ones using the Atom Publishing Protocol).

As noted at E-series.org, Nokia has silently added support for some more of the E-Series products for Nokia Media Transfer for Mac. I am sitting at a pesky PC right now, unable to try this out myself, but apparently you should be able to have NMT check for updates to install the updated version.

I am at the moment depending on a slow cellular link and cannot try it out myself, but you may be interested in the fact that Nokia has released Nokia Media Transfer for Mac as an open beta version.
